Behavioral Health

familyloanCatholic Charities of Fairfield County, Inc. has been a leader in providing affordable and accessible mental health services to economically disadvantaged individuals and families for over fifty years and is one of the only providers of subsidized mental health services in the region. It is accredited by the Council on Accreditation and licensed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Department of Children and Families.

Clinic staff consists of skilled master level and licensed clinicians with training in various mental health disciplines, including counseling, clinical social work, medication management, and marriage and family therapy. The Medical Director is a board certified psychiatrist. Each year, the Clinics deliver thousands of clinical sessions. Free counseling services are provided to people living in the Danbury area who are living at the 150% poverty level and who are uninsured. The funding for this program is provided by the Department of Social Services and the program is only offered in the Danbury clinic.

To reach those in need, the Clinics offer evening appointments, have bilingual capacity in Spanish, engage translating services where needed, provide in-home clinical counseling for the elderly and housebound, and maintain offices on public bus routes.

Related programs within the CCFC umbrella, such as Parenting Education, Empowering People for Success, Early Childhood Consultation, Intensive Family Preservation, and Family Loan, complement the care available at the Clinics.

Client Stories

John is a 49 year old male that came to Catholic Charities Behavioral Health in Bridgeport seeking counseling services regarding PTSD symptoms as a result of a severe motorcycle accident in 2008. He was test driving a motorcycle for his son, hit a telephone poll and almost lost a leg.

John underwent 5 leg surgeries that eventually saved his leg. John was involved in extensive physical therapy, lost his job as a construction foreman and began to experience depression. John initiated services in 2010 and has been receiving ongoing psychotherapy and supportive counseling as well as medication management to stabilize the PTSD and depression.

Because of his strength and motivation, today, John is working part-time as a supervisor, has reduced his depression and no longer has flashbacks from the accident. John feels like his “old self has come back”. All of the staff at the clinic have tremendous respect for John`s ability to accept support and consistently work on strategies that helped him heal from this life experience.
